What else we’re drinking…

Here at Hell-Bent we love the summer. Barbecues, the shore, and cabin trips give us so many reasons to share great beer with friends. With mid August rolling in our eyes and taste buds are curious of the upcoming autumn.

The fall brings a beer store invasion of pumpkin beers so great, one would think a whole refrigerator is blocked off for road work. It’s hard to weed out the good and the bad. One of our favorites is Southern Tier’s Pumpking.

Our reason for this is… IT TASTES LIKE PUMPKIN. This is surprisingly a hard thing to find in pumpkin beers. Most pumpkin beer flavor either lacks the taste of pumpkin or the pumpkin is overpowered by cinnamon, clove, and nutmeg.

Pumpking pours a light orange color. It gives the aroma of pumpkin filling and spices in a kitchen on thanksgiving day. It’s a medium body at 8.6% alcohol with a strong taste of pumpkin. The caramel malts and spices are present but do not over power the pumpkin. They in fact support and enhance the flavor.

Other pumpkin brews to check out in the near future are Brooklyn Brewery’s Post Road Pumpkin Ale and Dogfish Head’s Punkin’ Ale.
